Product Overview
15 Amp CW and Pulsed OEM Laser Diode Driver Overview
The model LDD-1121 is a high performance current source designed to operate as a CW or fast pulsed laser diode driver. It is configured and operate by the user over an industry-standard RS485 or USB connection. Set-up and monitoring can by done by the GUI interface using the included LDD-software. Basic system status is visually indicated by on-board LED’s and more detailed status information can be polled at any time through the PC interface. The LDD-1121 can operate in a stand-alone configuration as well as in a remotely controlled mode with parameters being adjusted in real time.
Low Noise Output / Industry Leading Laser Diode Protection Features
The core element of the LDD-1121 internal current source is the generation of precise 333 picosecond PWM steps that provide high resolution and very low ripple current. The output is short-circuit safe and can be chopped at up to 80 kHz for pulse mode operation. Driving low inductive loads, ultrashort fall and rise times are achievable. For the highest levels of laser diode protection, the supervision of critical system values is directly implemented in hardware. This results in very fast switch-off times (< 8 μs) in case of limit value violation.
These modules are innovative current drivers that contain a proprietary current source able to precisely drive laser diodes in pulsed, CW or mixed operation. It can be equipped with an optional laser power measurement circuit / photo-diode input. The LDD-1121 also monitors laser diode temperature (NTC thermistor input). The LDD-1121 is fully digitally controlled; its firmware is upgradeable to offer various communication options and to meet specific customer requirements.
USB and RS485 Interfaces with Control Software
The included PC-Software (USB / RS485) facilitates configuration, control, and real-time monitoring of the LDD-1121. Current and laser power [LPC optional] charting is also available through the software. All device settings are saved in non-volatile memory and can be backed up and restored. For remote / OEM applications, the LDD-1121 may be fully controlled by a system bus that features RS485 communication, pulse, interlock and 6 reserve lines.
The LDD-1121 is part of the LDD family of Meerstetter laser diode drivers, which are designed to operate alongside devices of the TEC family of Peltier controllers. Both families of drivers share the same system bus protocol, design concept and technology.
